About Chin Augmentation
Chin augmentation (also known as Mentoplasty) is a popular cosmetic enhancement that helps reshape and balance the face for individuals with a recessed or small chin, or one that is too prominent. We are here to assist you if you are looking for chin augmentation in Houston, TX. Feel free to contact us for consulting. Oftentimes, when a chin is too small it can create an unappealing profile and a weak jawline. A number of techniques can be performed to enhance the chin, but one of the most common is to insert a silicone implant to create a stronger jawline and a more defined profile. Houston, TX plastic surgeon, Dr. Edward Lee, offers many alternatives to consider for augmenting the chin. In addition to implants, which come in numerous sizes and shapes, he also offers nonsurgical procedures such as fillers or Kybella to help reshape the underside of the chin. In some cases, a patient may be dissatisfied with their chin because it is too large and prominent. Genioplasty may be considered, which shaves and removes bone and cartilage to reshape the chin and jawline to a smaller size.
Ideal Candidates
Chin augmentation is a common procedure for both men and women. If you are unhappy with the size and look of your chin or feel you have an undefined profile, chin augmentation can redefine the lower portion of your face and neck. It is also very common for some of our patients to combine rhinoplasty with their chin augmentation procedure in Houston. This combined approached ensures that the features of the face are balanced and in proportion.
Surgical Technique
During chin augmentation, general anesthesia will be administered and an incision made just under the chin. A pocket is first created to hold the implant in place, which involves shaving some of the bone to create grooves to keep the implant in position. The implant is inserted through the incision and is placed over the bone below the lower lip. In some cases, the incision can be made inside the lip where the lower lip meets the gumline. Both incisional points help to conceal scars. Small sutures are used to close the incisions and the chin will be wrapped with bandages.
What To Expect
Chin augmentation surgery yields immediate results, which can be very gratifying for our patients. Facial swelling will occur immediately after surgery, along with some bruising, but this is temporary. If chin augmentation was performed alone, the recovery period lasts about 2 weeks. Strenuous activity should be avoided during this time period. Whether you had chin augmentation to create a stronger jawline, or had chin reduction to reduce it, you will love your results. This particular surgery has very high success rates and under the hands of our skilled surgeon, your appearance will look natural and proportionate.

Chin surgery has proven to be extremely beneficial to so many of our patients. It creates harmonious balance and redefines your facial features.
