Brow Lift

What Is A Brow Lift?

Brow lift surgery (sometimes known as a forehead lift or browplasty) is a popular plastic procedure that helps create a higher brow position, which offers a more youthful look to the upper area of the face. A droopy brow can often create an angry or tired appearance. This procedure surgically addresses a drooping brow by eliminating excess skin from the forehead while raising the eyebrows, which helps refresh and soften the face. Houston, TX plastic surgeon Dr. Edward Lee is experienced in performing brow lift surgery on patients of all ages to create a more youthful look. Ideal Candidates

As we age, skin laxity decreases and causes many areas of the face to droop. This is particularly critical in the upper face and usually impacts men and women. When looking in a mirror, do you appear angry or tired, see frown lines between the eyebrows, or are bothered by your sagging brow? Brow lift surgery at Nuveau Plastic Surgery may be the ideal aesthetic procedure for your needs.

Surgical Technique

Prior to the procedure, anesthesia will be used. This can be done under general anesthesia, IV sedation or local anesthesia depending on the complexity of the surgery. The incision technique performed during a brow lift is chosen based on the severity of sag, if the forehead is addressed, and the position of the hairline. Many approaches may be used:

  • Traditional Incision

Also known as the open browplasty incision, this puts the incision behind the hairline at the top of the head. The open incision not only conceals scarring but also provides a certain amount of lift control during the surgery. The traditional incision works well for those with both frown lines and a sagging brow. The traditional brow lift is the preferred method for patients who are at risk of having a receding hairline.

  • Trichophytic Incision

This incision is made directly along the patient’s hairline. A trichophytic incision permits significant lifting of the brow for patients who have a low risk for hairline recession.

  • Lateral Brow Lift

Also called a temporal browplasty, the lateral technique starts the incision within the hairline slightly above the temples. A temporal incision allows the outer sections of the brow to be raised and helps sagging that is present in the outer brows. A temporal brow lift can also address Crow’s feet.

  • Endoscopic Forehead Lift

This is a more modern method employed in browplasty surgery. This method places several tiny incisions beyond the hairline and inserts a tool known as an endoscope, which travels down to the area of the eyebrow to release its attachments. Through the camera of the endoscope, the brow tissue is suspended using either stitches or a fixation device (Endotine) to place the brow in a higher position.

What To Expect

The recovery period following brow lift surgery varies in each patient, with the most discomfort and swelling occurring with the traditional method versus the temporal or endoscopic methods. Overall, there will be slight swelling and bruising in the upper portion of the face around the brows and possibly around the eyes. Cold compresses may help to reduce the swelling. Dr. Lee advises patients sleep upright for at least three nights following their surgery. It is critical to avoid any movement or activities that may put stress on the face. The typical recovery time from a brow lift is around 2 weeks. The outcome can often be seen right away, resulting in a refreshed appearance that looks softer and more alert.
